This week’s cartoon returns to the Halloween themes I was doing earlier a few months ago. There was a gap in my comics, because my printer and scanner collapsed. I changed computers, and the printer scanner was just not working well. They were battling with my software, and I had to fix the glitches. I think I finally got the programs to play nice together. That is a problem with trying to keep up a web-comic. Cheaper and easy to use hi tech for home offices has made making things to publish easier. Yet when the tech does not work it can lead to more effort in production. You don’t just have to be inspired to draw, you have to be able to get it online. So I have a back log of comics for April. I will start posting them on today, Tuesdays, and Fridays to get out the production back log. I tend to put it into book form every 30 comics, and so I need to rush to get near publication deadline. At about 30 comics, re-print of text, a little story, and a note on inspiration section tends to make a book a full standard size.

I love to keep blogs, but I couldn’t think of what to journal and blog about. Too much personal information in a blog can come back to haunt you. So why not comics? It is less personal, and way more fun. I am going to stick to pun comics for a while because I am getting used to publishing on a new schedule. I don’t want to really take on a complicated storyline yet. This week lacked a Tuesday comic because, well Mardi Gras was on Tuesday, and I used to live in New Orleans. That explains oh so much if you think about it.

*Evil Inc. Comic Removed due to Artist Complaint.* - Reviews are meant to be free advertisement for myself and other web-comics. If any artist at all or in part dislikes being reviewed I will quickly take it down whenever requested. I got just such a request this week from a famous web-comic author. However the old saying "There is no such thing as bad press." does apply to the fact that the more things are printed about you the more word of mouth sales you get. I am not claiming to have created the comic, and have given the authors full credit. In addition in the United States we also have a thing called Freedom of Speech and the First Amendment which indicates I as a human being am allowed to have feelings and opinions about things. His comic creating books do in fact have outrageous income promises that he says his web-comic techniques are automatically generating. Unfortunately the vast majority of web-comics that are a few doodles tossed down do NOOOOTTTTT make that much money! I got accused of making money by the IRS and many government agencies that I was NOT at ALL making, and had a lot of financial and legal problems this year after trying to make a web-comic. Readers need to be warned of the “dark side” of making your writing look too successful too fast on the Internet. Fines can be imposed and school scholarships can be cut when the government hallucinates publishing is making you extreme cash.

My Technorati rating this week is 27,632 in 3 million entertainment blogs. I am climbing Blog popularity ranks with this comic as a hobby. I was originally at about level 45,000, and am up over ten thousand rank levels this year.

Updates to this cartoon strip are now on Tuesdays and Fridays. Updates are available on the homepage, yet new comics are achieved at DeviantArt. Many of the archive services I have tried have deleted or gone bad with links. Yet DeviantArt seems to be standing the test of time with improvement, and not bad change. The sub-archives are listed below. Spare points for my DeviantArt account come from my PoeDaughter7 account at Stuffpoints. Stuffpoints is a media marketing page linked to Virool videos that really does pay out real game points, money gift cards, and Paypal dollar rewards. It’s a rare Internet treat when that sort of thing turns out real. I like Virool videos so much I may run an ad for my comic there someday because it only costs ten dollars to nationally syndicate an advertisement on Youtube. A great idea for future fledgling small businesses.

Underground-WebToons - This is my new group on DeviantArt. This group is dedicated to the Underground Stylized Art of the web-comic world. It is also for the underdogs of the web-comics, this group promises not to be snobby with the folder requirements of Comics and Comic Strips.
Requirements: Play nice! Submission can be to folders, but using auto submits to featured is also okay. Try not to use video game stills or video game content that is quickly altered with print screen as an excuse for art. Please limit submits to one per day. No offensive art, sexist art, or mean spirited creations. Try not to do scrap or incomplete artworks as submits. E-mail complaints to me as needed when oddities arise.

This comic is being posted on Thursday, and not posted on Tuesday. A special Halloween bonus dead-mummy joke for the height of the Night of the Undead, All Hallows Eve and November 1st famous as the Day of the Dead… After this I plan to start posting a gag, story, gag format again. The gag-pun jokes are meant to lighten up my short stories, and not to fully replace them entirely. Yet this Halloween has been filled with melodrama, and I needed an easy to post format for a while.

I was playing my favorite online game this week, and my character got a really great witch hat. This inspired me to do witch cartoons for the week. I was planning on hitting witch themes for Halloween anyway. However, the great witch hat told me the time for witch comics was now! Please note that the watch is both a witch watch, and flying to add “time flies” to the fun of the joke.

This week’s gag cartoons continue. I decided to draw only the heads of skeletons in this one so that I could draw more pumpkins in the background. It was harder to think of pumpkin puns, so I had to draw both skeletons and pumpkins. It is a bit of Halloween joke multitasking there. I was re-watching the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, so the skulls look a bit grim like in this one. Oh well, I wasn’t aiming at a style copy, but sometimes that sort of thing creeps in when I draw.

Reviews: This week’s Web-comic Wednesday Review is the online comic “Turkey Wang Chibi”. Done by a young lady who goes by Ann, and admits to the age of 20 these comic images are typical of the “video game promotional” genre. A major way to promote your web-comic art is to do fan art for a game, and post your homepage url on the image. Then post it to the video game chat forums. This promotes your personal art with the massive popularity of the video game’s chat forum. Thus the game’s advertisement dollars work for you. The games get and retain so many extra fans this way that they have begun not even caring if the art is game related fan fiction at all. Games have begun working art in the chat forums into the game, and give you game points and gold for posting art.

Part of these the point of these reviews is not just to compliment art, but to answer the question “Where do all the Web-comics come from, and why do people make them.” This week I wanted to focus in on the video game chat forum source of the web-comic obsession. MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) video games have become massively popular on the Internet. Chat forums sprung into being to answer questions like “My character is stuck, how do I get him out of the dragon nest.” But ended up being whatever conversation people wanted to have on the net. Creative people who enjoy great gaming graphics tend to enjoy seeing and making art. This began the sharing of “fan fiction” and “fan art” on chat forums. At first only the best and most game related fan art made it on there by game moderators and Game Masters (I used to be employed as a Game Master at World of Warcraft so I know this) on super popular games like World of Warcraft, and the personal urls were tiny. Now it has become a free for all of posting whatever you want. Art of all kinds is encouraged, and game makers encourage the devoted fan behavior this tends to cause.

A game that drastically promotes comics is Gaia Online Zomg. This game has an area called “art arenas” where people post their art in voting competitions. You earn in-game gold by voting on other people’s art, comics, and poems. These people in turn vote on yours. The art can have a statement, and your personal url with DeviantArt url linked to it. These can be to pages selling your art, and can promote sales. It can be game related or not, and it is your choice.

This is how I found the art for Turkey Wang Chibi, a comic posted to DeviantArt. It was a robot My Little Pony, Apocalypse Pony based on the Robot Chicken episode. Date: 03/04/2010 Tags: robot unicorn chibi Comments (7 Comments) The voting on the comic art forum was for the character Turkey Wang, at the address Gaia Online Zomg game Journal http://www.gaiaonline.com/journal/journal.php?mode=archive&u=20834275 were more art was posted. This in turn lead to the DeviantArt page where an entire folder of Gaia art links to the game. It is self described here: http://turkey-wang.deviantart.com/art/Chibi-Maldoror-145551406 “Art commission on gaia online for Maldoror, she gave me a page of avis I could choose to draw and I chose this one, the gothic lolita. This one has a lot of detail so it took longer. I need to practice more with ruffles. Completely done on paint tool Sai.” At this URL where a gothic Lolita styled comic character was drawn, and viewable. My one issue is that this comic does not seem to have its own storyline, or “comic” status beyond fan art. It would be interesting to see the talented images create a storyline of their own.

This gained a great deal more views compared to not being posted to a game forum. People feel a sense of friendship, and an automatic interest in art they see posted next to a game. Video games have a great deal more money for advertisement then many armature artists, so getting their powerful chat forums working for exposure can be a good trick. I say check it out!

Reviews: This week’s Mega Comic Monday Review is the online comic “15 Minutes of Fame”. I am a big Andy Warhol fan from back in the day, and “15 Minutes of Fame” was a big catch phrase to him. So the name caught my eye at once.
It is posted at The Duck web-comics. The big news here being Yay! It’s back online! The server was down for a VERY long while. I had comics posted there that I had NOT cross posted other places. I was liking posting there. Allan Moore himself recommends it as one of the best sites for making your own comic at E-How. So why did it go down? Their Facebook had a great deal of melodrama and gossip posted to it constantly. Heaven knows that they showed enough advertisements on there to be making money. Yet part of it was that content was switching greatly to their new DeviantArt forum. That stayed going in the shut down, and is still going strong.
So I picked “15 Minutes of Fame” to review this week, because it is very much the sort of strange thing you see on The Duck. To celebrate the forum’s return to life. It is an odd side project of the Pirate and Ninja comic of several other online series like “Another Civil War Comic T Fantasy |15 pages |last: July 6 2011 |0 likes There will be pirates. There will be ninjas. There will be Civil War once again on Drunk Duck! ... By the way: Hi! I'm Poul!” This non-American born individual writes English well for a non-native. He is self described here: “Hey! Wellcome to my Drunk Duck profile. I want to apologize for all spelling errors in the profile text. My English spelling SUCKS. I'm a 17 year old guy from Denmark. My birthday is the 14 august. As you might can gess I love comic's. I'm a huge fan of the Drunk Duck Civil War (I'm with Riot).”
So that is part of the big fun with The Duck web-comics. Any comic can be there, and I do mean any comic! You do not need to speak English, you do not need to have super money, you do not even need to give your drawings words. It is a truly liberated art forum that I missed in its absence.
