Myth of the E-Book Millionaire
I’ll admit that my latest comic book kick is in large part inspired by the latest Kindle update. I hate to sound like a commercial, but this e-book sensation is amazing! You could always put scanned images into Kindle books, yet the better graphics of Kindle Comics has its lure. http://amazon.com/kc2 - Kindle Comic Creator. It has the power of kindle e-books in a comic book format. Pay no printing, publishing, or shipping fees to make a book. You can read them on Computer, I Phone, and Kindle. It translates all books to all languages in the world - press “Text Using Instant Translations”. Listen to a book with “Text to Speech” - makes all books audiobooks you can listen to when playing video games or driving. The price of the readers has dropped on Amazon to 30 bucks, cheaper in many ways than a family eating one lunch at McDonalds.
However, I must have a word of warning… If you have a book or comic book you want to publish, do it because you want to publish ideas. Not because advertisements tell you it will make you big bucks. A new Gold Rush has happened on the net, there’s gold in them there e-books! It takes hackers three seconds to hack your book, and pirate it for free. Download stats can be very false.
Many people have book ideas in there head. Lucky short stories and comics have now made far more money from the movie industry than Marilyn Monroe’s curves. Who can blame every creative Joe for wanting to toss out an idea or two? However, reality is not the fantasy e-book publishers and internet self publishers put in every advertisement. For every E-book that is a hit, there are tens of thousands of flops. There would be a dictionary definition to the phrase "flooded market" for books. Like the California Gold Rush era sucked oceans of people in, promising them streets made of gold in outrageous newspaper ads. Only to create a world of drunken disappointed miner 49s who often got shanghaied onto boats. We won’t even talk about the stories of long-pork. The one winner of the Gold Rush game was the suppliers, who sold gold mining tools at outrageous fees to people with the miner 49er dream of getting rich quick.
Similarly, people who make profit off of Internet publishing make money promising a dream of quick money. They pay to have articles with bumped up numbers on download payments, for e-books, e-books plus, and Amazon downloads posted everywhere. No mention of the pirate copy rates. E-books can be good fun as a weekend hobby, but don’t depend on it getting everyone who occasionally types mega-cash, minimum wage, or even a refund on the cash they put into it. Word processing software, maintaining a computer, electricity on the computer, shipping costs on printed copies, and fees to publish all eat into the profit of any book before pirates steal all the rest. It takes money to make money, don’t expect it all to be instantly coming back to you.
