Post 23 Country Gate at Lake 1 photo of the day.

This photo is called “Country Gate at Lake”. The wood gate dominates this picture. Yet the lake is visible at the far upper right corner. A single main tree frames the foreground of the picture in a large arc. The winter leaves have not yet reached a spring state.

Post 10 Gateway to Catland photo of the day.

Photo: Gateway to Catland.

Now the blog project is up to photo 10. This one is called Gateway to Catland. I got a good amount of responses when I referred to the tunnels by my house as a “Catland Gateway” in another post. The look of zeal and joy on the faces of several cats I saw running into there made me think it was some sort of ultra fun-time hangout. Much like the wardrobe in the famous Narnia books, or the 9 and three quarters pillar in a train station in Harry Potter books, the entrance to Catland seems to me to be a fun filled place. It may not look like much, but looks can be deceiving in many ways. Their private lives may make “fun in the underground” go to an all new level.

Post 9 Cedar Stump at Sunset photo of the day.
Photo: Cedar Stump at Sunset.
Now the blog project is up to photo 9. This one is called Cedar Stump at Sunset, and it is titled accurately as a Cedar tree stump that is backlit by the sun at sunset. Cedar allergies are horrible for people this time of year. I live near a park and golf course, and the people who maintain the grounds cut the Cedar trees down. This is necessary due to the allergy needs of people who try to golf in the area. You can’t really get any golf fitness walking done if you are doubled up in the fetal position when trying to walk around. I have asthma, and I know how it feels. Yes, the allergy attacks these trees produce is completely painful and that extreme. Yet the stump does depict a harsh reality, and it is that humans constantly fight nature to provide for their existence as they encroach upon it.

Post 8 Dog in Nature photo of the day.

Photo: Dog in Nature

This is post 8 of my nature photo a day project. My Chihuahua dog Coco helps me take photos. Here she is on a walk. Yes, my dog is smaller than the cat, and the cat often tries to beat her up for food. I therefore have to feed them separately and the cat now wants to live outside most of the time. It is a bit of a hassle, but the cat loves to live outside in the tunnels two blocks from my house catching tunnel lizards. There is a cat city in the tunnels, and they socialize there like it is a party club. I always see two or three cats run in there at a time. Long haired cats can deal with the outdoors a bit better than short haired tiny toy dogs, so I have to split up their indoor and outdoor time to avoid a violent Loony Toon adventure in my house. My dogs are pretty much the inspiration for taking so many nature photos. They cry and howl when I they don’t get enough walking, and when outdoors you see many things that are beautiful in nature. Soon after getting dogs, I started keeping a camera with me for walks. It becomes an image life journal in ways you would not expect.

Post 6 Purple Splash Flower photo of the day.

Photo: Purple Splash Flower

This is post 6 of my nature photo a day project. The purple turned out really vivid on this one. There is on purpose a high contrast in focus with the main flower, and background grass is left fogged. My high school photojournalism teacher used to always have us do projects with this technique called “depth of field” with fogged backgrounds. This photo was taken in spring, and it is almost that time of year again. Spring is a good time of year to take photos outside in the country by the lake. Baby animals prance around looking cute. Flowers bloom, bugs have colored wings, and birds dance and sing for each other. You can barely wave a camera around without catching a good nature photo. Now that the evil Cedar pollen overkill has lessened in the Austin, TX area I can get outside a bit more for photos. However, this is an older photo I am re-posting until my more recent spring flower photos are processed.

Post 5 Black Cat Unamused Grey photo of the day.

Photo: Black Cat Unamused Grey

I am doing a nature photo a day project. My definition of nature includes pretty much anything that is not a building or human snapshot. Wild animals, insects, and even pets are fully part of nature in this hobby project. My kitty looks unamused that I am taking photos, and not giving him treats. Every minute of every day can not be treat time darn it!
I know I have posted in the past that I am allergic to cats. This is an outside cat, and he has a shed he lives in at the house side. He started living there, and he likes it best. Cedar Fever is hitting Austin, TX where I live. Hitting it much like a brick wall where the Cedar trees in the area puff out massive clouds of allergy inducing pollen. It looks like a fire the clouds of pollen are so thick. I am very allergic. So this is a very allergy-medication induced hallucination post. I am in an over the counter Purple Haze at this point I am on so much medication.

Post 2 Nature subject matter in a still life with Halloween photos as a photo of the day.

Photo: Pumpkin Table Close Up Grey by Andrea Menzies

I am doing a nature photo a day project. To come up with a high volume of nature photos fast, I am going to have to draw from a wide range of photography equipment. I do not actually have a pro-grade camera and Photoshop at home at the moment. Yet I have learned to use pro-grade equipment in passing High School yearbook photography and University level journalism classes. Some of these photos are taken using professional grade equipment and Photoshop I have borrowed from friends who are professional grade photographers. Some of it is taken with 5 dollar disposable cameras and scanned, some with discount Walmart GE digital cameras costing 30 dollars, some of it with cheap pre-paid cell phone cameras, and some of it with 5 dollar key chain Vivitar cameras from Walgreens given as a free gift at the register. All of these things have in common that they help you frame image subject matter into a distinct image perspective, so they are all useful. Yet the image quality will vary, oh how it will have variation.
In addition, I have used a very liberal interpretation of the word “nature” here for these blog entries. Meaning I don’t just use nature landscapes, but also things from nature in still life. Nature photo can mean flowers on a table, a dog next to natural flowers, trees next to man made objects. Anything that does not have people in snap shot portraits as the focus is in my definition of “nature photo” for this blog. A project of this sort requires a quantity over quality focus when starting up.

New format for the New Year, a change of posts to all nature photos.

Photo: Spring Cherry Blossoms by Andrea Menzies

My blogs are now nature photo blogs. Posting humor got too many stalkers. Every joke has a "butt" to it, and you never know who is going to take it the wrong way. Nature being part of earth gets less haters.

I posted cartoons because I am a bit stumped on what to post lately. I was doing my own personal doodles and cartoons, but that was getting way too much attention from mean Internet stalkers, and also other cartoonists taking my commentary on comparing my cartoons to theirs a bit too personally. Artists are the moody type of person, and I can't really deal with that attitude right now personally. The nature of jokes is that someone or thing needs to be the "butt" of the joke, be it a political institution, drone strike, authority figure, someone, or something. You never know what nerve endings are going to get smashed with any issue. If you say you hate drone strikes, for example someone somewhere will say you are racist against Obama and flood your email with angry rants. I don’t care what Obama’s background is, I just hate dead small children in drone strikes! If you put in witches to your cartoon, some Christian community somewhere will say you are anti-Christian. Not true, I just like magic stories. I have been dealing with health issues lately so I do not want to wake up to an e-mail box filled with angry rants. Until the controversy dies down on some dark humor jokes I posted, I need another thing to blog about. So I looked into the Wordpress Daily Post Community Pool January 5, 2014 ideas page for popular blog ideas, and found the article "Projects: 365 Days, 52 Weeks by Cheri Lucas Rowlands" and saw the popular blog format "(Nature) Photo-a-day projects were a great way to maintain a regular publishing schedule. Thaddeus Miles shares an image a day on his 365 Project blog, and we like the variety of subjects he presents." as a popular blog format. I tend to do that with nature photos anyway since I live next to a large golf course and park, and I have a backlog to post. Therefore I am switching for the New Years to a nature photo a day. Not as popular as comics and humor, I know. Nature photos are listed as a blog format that is liked, and does not have problems with online journal communities. Nature being part of earth tends to not spark arguments the way a dark sense of humor can. This change of format for the New Year is my late resolution. I will return with cartoons when my health improves, and I can avoid and deal with controversy and hostility a bit better.
