Webcomic Wednesday and Super-Comic Sunday Reviews
Death G Reaper for Supercomic Sunday Reviews

Welcome to Web-Comic Wednesday, and Super-Comic Sunday Reviews! My Technorati rating this week is 21035 at Frozen History Seven Publishing out of about 2 million comic blogs. It is listed here: http://technorati.com/blogs/directory/overall/page-878/ I am rated Authority: 104 in Comics Reviews down 1 from last week. It is a big deal in unpaid hobby-blog obsession land. I had to beat out 3 small Comic book stores on reviews for that vast honor so yea… there is that to think about.

Selling Points: I try not only to review the big names of the webcomic world, but also the start ups. It shows off just how hard the work is of coming up with fresh comic ideas, inking them, and getting them down. The expensive pros make it look easy and funny, with hi priced comics software, drawing tools, and comics done more by the computer and nothing by hand. That is part of their skill, they make it look effortless so people get lost in the story quickly. Yet getting ideas, and writing them down, making them funny, and doing it with witty art is actually very hard to do. This weeks comic shows the fresh side of the spectrum, “Death G Reaper”. I first got into this story due to the magic evil bottle that a student collects. I collect bottles! Basically the bottle is a magic item Warehouse 13 style, and all sorts of havoc ensue. This comic has a grim reaper, Terry Prachett style with comedy behaviors a sort of light hearted dark character. He ends up unemployed, and job hunting between heaven and hell. This hand drawn comic is excellent for capturing a primal nature of manga. However, the lettering needs help. The last panel at http://www.drunkduck.com/Death_G_Reaper/5434587/ makes a joke out of the Reaper being *squished* out of the panel. Unfortunately, it really is hard to follow the story with the text doing strange things. In my comic, I pre-write the story in word processing and cut and paste it to avoid this sort of text problem. Hand drawn lettering takes a great deal of effort and skill. I foresaw this problem as I started making hand drawn comics, and went for a postmodern art-collage cut and paste style moment one fearing the “character squishes”. However, I must say I envy the crap out of this artist’s ability to draw both male and female characters with ease and good proportion. The lines are smooth, and the people are well proportioned. If this writer upgrades to more computer driven text graphics, the lettering will be auto formatted, and the problems will be fixed. Yet hand drawn has a charm of original organic art many readers like, so they may keep it this format. Time will tell. I like this comic. I am giving it a positive review! Fhseven dot com…
